Kalysha Snow-Hanrahan awarded 2027 Nuffield Canada Scholarship

Kalysha Snow-Hanrahan awarded 2027 Nuffield Canada Scholarship

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Winnipeg, October 5, 2026 - Agriculture in the Classroom Canada (AITC-C) is pleased to congratulate Kalysha Snow-Hanrahan, thinkAG Manager, on her selection as one of four 2027 Nuffield Canada Scholars. Kalysha is the first scholar from Newfoundland and Labrador to receive the prestigious scholarship.

Nuffield Canada awards scholarships to agricultural professionals to undertake independent international research and study. Through access to a global network of scholars and industry leaders, recipients develop expertise in their chosen field and bring new knowledge and practical recommendations back to Canadian agriculture.

Kalysha’s research will explore how Canada can build stronger, more accessible pathways into agriculture and agri-food, particularly for young people who did not grow up around agriculture. Connecting young people with agricultural careers takes more than showing them what jobs exist. It also means helping them understand how their skills and interests fit within the sector- and how to move from interest to education, training and employment.

AITC Canada and Second Harvest Partner to Launch New Food Waste Quest in Mission Explorium

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Winnipeg, September 8, 2026 — Agriculture in the Classroom Canada (AITC-C) and Second Harvest are proud to announce the launch of a brand-new Food Waste Quest within AITC-C’s national Mission Explorium program. Designed for Grades 6–8 youth, this Quest invites students across Canada to explore the causes and impacts of food waste — and to design innovative, real-world solutions that contribute to a more sustainable future.

Developed in partnership with Second Harvest, Canada’s largest food rescue organization, the Food Waste Quest brings authentic expertise and national relevance to the classroom. Through hands-on activities, inquiry-based learning, and real-world scenarios, students will investigate how food moves through the supply chain, why so much of it is lost or wasted, and what actions individuals and communities can take to reduce waste. The Quest empowers youth to think critically about sustainability, climate impacts, and food systems — while inspiring them to take action on food waste in their own communities and imagine future careers where they can help create a more sustainable, waste-smart food system.

Canada’s Young Agriculture & Food Problem Solvers Shine as the National Winner of Mission Explorium Is Announced

Winnipeg, MB - Agriculture in the Classroom Canada (AITC‑C) is proud to celebrate the ingenuity and problem‑solving power of students across the country through Mission Explorium, a national program that invited Grades 6–8 learners to step into the role of agriculture & food problem solvers. This year, over 5300 students registered from coast to coast to coast, engaging in hands‑on, inquiry‑based learning that brought agriculture, sustainability, and innovation to life.

Launched in February and concluding in May, Mission Explorium challenged students to design a sustainable community on a deserted island. Through a series of quests, students applied critical thinking, creativity, and agricultural literacy to tackle real‑world issues such as food production, resource management, and community resilience. Their work demonstrated the essential role young people play in shaping the future of Canada’s food system.

National Winner Announced
