Canada to Glow Green: Celebrating a Brighter Future Rooted in Agriculture
WINNIPEG, MB — This March, landmarks across Canada will light up in green to celebrate Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month (CALM 2026) — a coast-to-coast-to-coast moment of illumination highlighting the people, places, and stories that feed our nation.
Organized by Agriculture in the Classroom Canada (AITC-C), CALM 2026 unites classrooms, communities, and industry partners under the theme “A Brighter Future, Rooted in Agriculture.” From the Princess Gates at Exhibition Place in Toronto to the Science World in Vancouver, from the Legislative Assembly in Yellowknife to the Shaw Building in Charlottetown, more than 25 landmarks across Canada will glow green throughout March — symbolizing growth, connection, and Canada’s shared agricultural roots.
“These green lights represent more than celebration — they represent connection,” said Denise Schmidt, Executive Director of AITC-Canada. “When Canadians see their skylines glowing green, we hope they’re reminded that agriculture touches every community, every classroom, and every future.”
Darcy Pawlik, Chair of the AITC-Canada Board, added: “For decades, we’ve grown understanding inside classrooms. In 2026, we’re taking that light across the country — turning awareness into visibility, and pride into action.”
A National Moment of Illumination
This year marks the 15th anniversary of Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month. Over the last 14 years, CALM has delivered more than 1,000,000 student experiences in 18,500+ classrooms, thanks to the dedication of over 6,000 volunteers nationwide. CALM 2026 will engage students in all 10 provinces and one territory through a combination of programs including classroom visits, reading challenges, resource distribution, and a variety of events — all focused on building the agriculture and food literacy skills of our next generation.
Each light turned green will symbolize how curiosity grows into understanding, and how understanding helps shape the future of food, farming, and innovation in Canada. In 2026, more than 25 confirmed landmarks will glow green in celebration of agriculture literacy, reinforcing the national reach and collective impact of this work. Recent educator feedback of an AITC-Canada program underscores this importance: 88% of educators agreed that students expressed a greater appreciation for the role of agriculture in their daily lives or communities.
