Founding Executive Director stepping back from AITC-C

Join us in wishing Ross well on her future endeavors.

(Headingley, MB) - January 31st, 2023 Please join the Board of Directors of Agriculture in the Classroom – Canada in extending best wishes to Johanne Ross, who will step back from AITC-C after seven years as the Founding Executive Director of our organization. Her final day of work will be February 9, 2023.

Johanne was instrumental to the establishment and growth of our fledgling national organization. Among her many accomplishments, she raised the profile of Agriculture in the Classroom at the national level and secured significant financial support from Agriculture and Agri-food Canada as well as many sector partners, to support our critical mission of creating agriculture and food literate citizens. Johanne came to our organization after 16 years as the Executive Director of Agriculture in the Classroom in Manitoba, her home province. In 2021, she was inducted in the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame in recognition of her contributions to the Canadian agriculture and food sector.

The Board thanks Johanne for her many years of dedicated service. We wish her well in her future endeavours!

Agriculture in the Classroom Canada joins national career campaign again this November

(Headingley, MB)  Agriculture in the Classroom Canada (AITC-C), along with its collective of 10 provincial members, is inspiring students to explore careers in agriculture and food this November for Canada Career Month, a national campaign initiated by the Canadian Career Development Foundation (CCDF). By putting agri-food careers into the spotlight through its thinkAG initiative, AITC-C hopes to get Canadian teens curious about the diversity of careers available in the sector and help close the labour shortage gap.

This year’s Career Month celebrations include the launch of AITC-C’s new Kareero app, the release of an online instructional support guide for teachers for the career exploration game Career Case, and a 30-Day thinkAG Challenge for teachers and students.

AITC-C is also launching a new campaign during Canada Career Month called ‘I Am Agriculture’. Encouraging those in the agriculture and food industry to share the important role they play in this vital sector with #IAmAgriculture. Young people deserve to know that whatever their passions or interests are, agriculture will welcome them and has workplaces they can thrive in.
