Kalysha Snow-Hanrahan awarded 2027 Nuffield Canada Scholarship

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kalysha Snow-Hanrahan awarded 2027 Nuffield Canada Scholarship

Winnipeg, October 5, 2026 - Agriculture in the Classroom Canada (AITC-C) is pleased to congratulate Kalysha Snow-Hanrahan, thinkAG Manager, on her selection as one of four 2027 Nuffield Canada Scholars. Kalysha is the first scholar from Newfoundland and Labrador to receive the prestigious scholarship.

Nuffield Canada awards scholarships to agricultural professionals to undertake independent international research and study. Through access to a global network of scholars and industry leaders, recipients develop expertise in their chosen field and bring new knowledge and practical recommendations back to Canadian agriculture.

Kalysha’s research will explore how Canada can build stronger, more accessible pathways into agriculture and agri-food, particularly for young people who did not grow up around agriculture. Connecting young people with agricultural careers takes more than showing them what jobs exist. It also means helping them understand how their skills and interests fit within the sector - and how to move from interest to education, training and employment.

“We talk a lot about attracting the next generation to agriculture, and there is valuable work happening across Canada,” said Kalysha. “I want to explore how we can better connect those efforts and turn shared priorities into coordinated action. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel - we can learn from approaches already working elsewhere and adapt them to Canadian realities.” Through international research, Kalysha will examine how educators, employers, government and agricultural organizations work together to support career pathways and workforce development. She will identify approaches that could inform a more unified Canadian strategy while responding to regional needs.

The study builds on her experience managing thinkAG, AITC-C’s agricultural career awareness initiative, and working with education and industry partners to help students explore opportunities across the agri-food value chain. “I’m looking forward to learning from international approaches and bringing those findings home,” she added. “My goal is to develop practical recommendations that help more young people find - and pursue - a future in Canadian agriculture.”
