Meet Kassandra Mohr, a Controller at SeedMaster. Although agriculture was not her first choice coming out of university, she has managed to quickly become a success and now cannot see herself working in any other industry. Kassandra began her post-secondary education completing a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in accounting. After that, she obtained a Master’s in professional accounting and her chartered accountant (CA) designation.
While in school Kassandra took advantage of co-op work terms in order to test out a career in her chosen field, but also to make some money while going to school. Her first co-op term was with Evraz doing internal audits. Following that, she moved on to Meyers Norris Penny (MNP) to work in accounting – they even paid for some of her schooling.
As a Controller, Kassandra’s daily functions include accounts receivable, payroll and other accounting responsibilities. She manages two other employees in order to keep the financial side of the company running smoothly. Kassandra is also part of the senior management team at SeedMaster, participating in daily high-level discussions regarding the direction and focus of the company, as well as evaluating new initiatives and business plans going forward. Before SeedMaster, Kassandra was also part of the senior management team at MNP.
Kassandra never planned on working in the agriculture industry even after growing up on the family farm. She was interested in accounting and did not initially see the connection with agriculture. Once at MNP, she discovered that just because you are not a primary producer, does not mean you cannot have an exciting career in agriculture and help to feed the world. She now says that she will never leave the ag industry and strongly recommends it as it is full of opportunities for young business professionals.
