Health Safety and Environment Compliance and Audit Specialist

Health Safety and Environment Compliance and Audit Specialist

Meet Nicole, a Health Safety and Environment Compliance and Audit Specialist. In her role with Bayer CropScience, she sees the large role science and technology play in the agriculture and agri-food industry.

Nicole places high importance on education. She first graduated from University with a bachelor of biochemistry and then went on to complete her masters in toxicology in 2010.

Nicole’s past research experience has been in the areas of canola molecular biology, ovarian cancer, nanotechnology, aquatic and wildlife toxicology, and human cardiovascular toxicology. Nicole’s primary role is making sure everyone who works in Bayer’s research facilities are safe. She says the best part of her job is traveling to the different research locations, allowing her to meet people from across the country and see the various aspects of the business. All research facilities and greenhouses have safety requirements to ensure the well-being of their employees. Nicole is responsible for Bayer’s safety standards and also ensures they meet legislative requirements.

In order to fulfil her role, Nicole needs to have a good understanding of the practices and procedures that are being carried out in the different locations, and this is where her diverse scientific background plays a large role. Nicole knows agriculture is rooted in science. Although she grew up on a farm, she was able to see early on that as population increases, we will need to find more efficient ways to grow more food on the same amount of land. Being part of the solution was what drove Nicole to choose a career in agriculture.
