About CALM

Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month (CALM) takes place each March and is a celebration of agriculture in classrooms across the country. Each provincial AITC organization offers uniquely different activities, all aimed at helping students learn about, connect to and celebrate agriculture. 

March 2027 is the 16th year celebrating CALM across Canada. Over the last 15 years, CALM has been able to deliver over 1,000,000 student experiences, in 18,500+ classrooms thanks to the work of over 6,000 volunteers.

Canadians can participate by:

  • See the Lights: Explore the list of green-lit landmarks below, visit one in your community to capture a photo, or take part digitally in select locations offering virtual participation.
  • Go Green & Share: Capture a photo while taking part in an agriculture- or food-related activity and share it online using #CALM27, #AgLitMonth and #LightUpGreen.
  • Say Thank You: Show appreciation to a farmer, educator, food or agriculture professional, or anyone who helps bring food from farm to table.
  • Access Resources: Explore 900+ English or French factual, accurate and current agriculture and food resources at our National Resource Library.
  • Register for Regional Programs: See what K-12 educational programs are being offered near you below. 
  • Become a partner: farms, agri-businesses, community organizations and municipalites can explore below how they can partner with us for CALM.

Become a CALM Partner

Join Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month (CALM) this March and help inspire curiosity about Canada’s food system. Partners can contribute storytelling, digital content, or awareness activities that highlight the people and processes behind our food. Submit a proposal to get involved and access CALM branding tools and national visibility opportunities.

Lighting Canada Green for the 16th Anniversary of CALM

To mark the 16th anniversary of Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month, communities across the country are celebrating the people and stories that make agricultural education possible. Throughout March, landmarks from coast to coast to coast will glow green in recognition of how agriculture connects every community and every classroom. Each green light honours the educators, volunteers, and partners who help students discover where their food comes from and the essential role agriculture plays in daily life.

Everyone is invited to join the celebration by visiting a participating landmark, sharing photos of the green lights, and helping raise awareness of agricultural literacy in Canada. Landmarks are lit from dusk until dawn. A full list of participating sites will be added once available.
