Veterinarian Technician

Veterinarian Technician

After two years of intensive college study, Breanna Issel secured her dream career of working with animals as a Veterinary Technician. Breanna grew up with a love of rural living. After showing an interest in caring for large animals, the local vet took Breanna on as a student volunteer in her teens. Under this arrangement there was very little trouble in securing the Veterinary Diploma preregistration requirement of 80 volunteer hours as it would be met 100 times over by the time she had completed high school and was preparing to enter college.

There is no such thing as “typical” days for Breanna. Every day brings new challenges to meet the incredible demand for veterinary services in her clinic’s region. With a mixed practice that serves both pet and commercial animal needs, there is an incredibly interesting variety to her days at the clinic. Helping farmers breed their animals and deliver new born animals as well as surgery prep, vaccinations, billing and purchase ordering, Breanna has proven to be a vital part of the clinic’s operations and success.

Dealing with numerous and differing animal physiologies is challenging and there are many days where “9 to 5” isn’t the norm or even possible, but Breanna loves the responsibility and knowing she is a valued team member.

Demand for Veterinary Technicians is on the rise and with Canada’s vibrant agricultural sector soaring to new heights, Breanna is well positioned to succeed.  Although she is living her dream, she wasn’t limited to work in a clinic; as a Veterinary Technician she could have put her diploma to work in a research facility, an emergency animal clinic, a feedlot, or as a pharmaceutical or animal feed representative. Freedom of choice in a highly rewarding field suits Breanna just fine as she embraces her stimulating field with renewed enthusiasm each day.
